Managing Director Kulturgold

Location: Bucharest, Romania / Brussels, Belgium
Contract: Full-time
Reports to: Kulturgold Board

About Kulturgold

Kulturgold is a cultural events company based in Bucharest. Incorporated in 2024 as part of REDI’s network portfolio, it grew out of years of close collaboration with Roma-led institutions and now operates as an independent company.

Kulturgold has three core service lines:

  • Event management
  • European grant writing
  • Art space management

The company has been established and is ready to grow. Its next stage will be to develop an active calendar of cultural events and, subject to commercial viability, launch a recurring festival.

Kulturgold is now looking for a leader to build and deliver that next stage.

The role

As Managing Director, you will lead Kulturgold and turn an incorporated company with a strong identity into a sustainable events business.

You will be responsible for programming, production, clients, partnerships, sponsorship, revenue generation and, over time, building a team.

By the end of the first year, we expect Kulturgold to have delivered two to four events, secured paying clients across its service lines, and produced a rigorous, fully costed recommendation on whether a recurring festival is commercially and operationally viable.

This is a builder’s role. There is no established playbook or large department to rely on. You will shape the strategy with the Board and lead its implementation directly until the company is ready to grow its team.

What you’ll do:
  • Develop Kulturgold’s event strategy, annual programme and supporting budget
  • Produce events from concept to delivery, including venues, artists, permits, suppliers, logistics, ticketing and on-site management
  • Grow the company’s three service lines: event management, European grant writing and art space management
  • Assess the festival concept, including the market, potential locations, costs, audiences, partners and funding opportunities
  • Present a clear, evidence-based go or no-go recommendation for the festival
  • Generate revenue through clients, sponsorships, ticket sales, grants and cultural funding
  • Build and manage a trusted network of venues, suppliers, freelancers, artists and production partners
  • Recruit the company’s first permanent team members as revenue and operational needs grow
  • Take ownership of the company’s profit and loss account, cash flow and financial performance
  • Report monthly to the Kulturgold Board
What we’re looking for:
  • Demonstrable experience producing ticketed events, such as concerts, festivals, cultural programmes or comparable live events
  • A strong track record of delivery, supported by measurable results such as audience numbers, budgets managed, ticket revenue or sponsorship secured
  • Commercial experience, including selling sponsorships, winning clients, negotiating partnerships or generating revenue
  • The ability to understand and manage budgets, cash flow and a profit and loss account
  • Strong knowledge of the Romanian cultural and events sector, including venues, suppliers, promoters, institutions and funders
  • Familiarity with European cultural funding programmes, including Creative Europe or similar schemes, is a strong advantage
  • The ability to work independently, build systems from the ground up and operate effectively with limited infrastructure
  • Professional fluency in English; additional languages are an advantage
  • A connection to Roma communities, culture or Roma-led organisations is a strong advantage
What we offer:
  • A competitive salary, commensurate with experience
  • A genuine leadership mandate: you will run a company, not manage a project within a foundation
  • The opportunity to build a cultural events business from the ground up
  • The support of a regional network of Roma-led institutions, cultural organisations and partners
